Christine
Christine was born in Wales, the Land of Song, Music and Harps! On settling in Albany in the 70s she played keyboard for eleven years in a country dance band with her husband touring the Great Southern playing for many functions and weddings.
Some years later she arranged to import a 34string “Azaliz” Lever Harp from Camac Harps in France and had it shipped to Albany. She has been trained by Bronwyn Wallis a prominent Harp Teacher in Perth. There have been visits to the Edinburgh International Harp Festival and Welsh International Harp Festival since the arrival of the harp, allowing her to expand her knowledge and harp skills with various harp courses and workshops. During one of these visits to Edinburgh she was proud to have been part of the ensemble of 201 harpists, playing for the BBC TV Host of Harps Concert as part of the E.I.H.Festival.
Given her background Christine has a love of celtic and gaelic harp music but also enjoys a variety of music including pieces by modern composers that have more recently been adapted for lever harp and now plays at many civic functions, weddings, art gallery openings etc.
In trying to raise the profile of this beautiful instrument in WA she also creates and co-ordinates a Newsletter for WA Harpists (Harp West News) and gives harp lessons to adult beginners in Albany, hoping to bring the harp into the heart of anyone - whatever their age - who would like to play this beautiful instrument.
